I just download Stencyl 229 (not sure if it updated automatically to 230 and I don't see the run and gun kit as an option. Its really the main reason I need Stencyl and the type of game I'll be creating. The jump and run isn't going to fully cut it. Is there a place I can acquire this kit? Thanks a bunch!

EDIT: I think I found it and downloaded it via the games section, but it appears to be somewhat incomplete. I'll have to look through it and see what else I can do to improve upon it and learn about the inner workings of the language while I'm at it.

The Strider is a game about liberty, war, and electronics. You play the role of Axis, a man who ruins time in order to save himself - in the loosest way of saying that.

Gameplay
The Strider is a metroidvania puzzle RPG. You run around leveling up, killing things, and... Well, the puzzles would be spoiled if I said them, but I'm not going to lie by saying that I know what they are.

You have my sword.
The plot? You escape from a dystopian world - but you have to go back to save yourself. Why? Because the antagonist is an asshole. What does that mean? He's making a legend so that there are legends at all.

About levels
Levels are stored - right now - as a text file that refers to backgrounds, wallmasks, and actors. It's really simple, I wrote two (bad) levels in one day from scratch.

If anyone wants it I'll post up a link to the current alpha.

Spiritless

Hey Hey Stencylers, some of you have been wondering what I've been up, many of you haven't and most of you probably don't care, but still, here it is! ^^

Spiritless is a WIP I've been making since they first announced the competition05. (pretty much) I've finally uploaded the Demo, is larger than it should be because of lots of clearing up needed to be done, and future sprites, music and coding is in there too. It's also my entry for competition05. I really have put alot of effort into this, so a little support, even if you hate me, would be nice ;-) I'm going to put in the full version soon (it's still incomplete), but I'll be updating the demo with more content every week or so from now.

I really need some feedback, not so much now, but feedback now is good nonetheless. =)

Alternate, non yoyo download: Fileden

Please review it and give me your thoughts, thanks guys. ;-)

The Story:
Story, a little spoiler here and there, nothing big. (Click to View)
There are three worlds in the game, the spirit world, the living world and the overworld. When a pure person dies, they go to the overworld with Absol as their guide, however, if they are not pure they go to the spirit world. If you aren't evil, then you are punished for your sins, you could be there 20mins, 20 years or even 200 years, but not for that long in relation to the history of the world. Death guides those who are not pure to the spirit world. However, if you are evil, you are left their for eternity, and become a demon of some sort over time.
You are a young man whose mother died recently and father disappeared when you were young. While resting at your mother's grave you find a gift that is labelled "to my son" you wear it, suddenly a priest appears, shouting that you are pure, a soldier arrive and knocks you out.
While unconscious you remember what your father told you about the world. You wake up in a castle, death and king Kohf are discussing their deal, 10 sacrifices in exchange for 100 years of life, you happened to be on of the sacrifices.
While standing up to the authority of the king and Death himself, Death laughs so loudly that the most important object in the world, on its stand, the urn, falls and hits your head, breaking and killing you. You and the urn disappear into the spirit world.
You wake up to Val the imprisoned angel, she explains the tutorial, you free her and move to the Celestial Tomb, the place in which the urn will have to be placed and where she will explain more of the story, and objective of the game.
The history of this world, or, game, is that 100 years ago Death got hold of the urn, a powerful object made by Absol the bringer of life to give any wish to a mortal who sacrificed 10 pure souls. He wasn't supposed to be able to kill pure people, but he found a loophole, he could get mortals like the king, who are corrupt, to sacrifice them for him. The urn requires ten years gap before it can be used again, so every ten years he banished the high ranking angels, like Val the angel of peace, which caused their to be kings and war in the first place.
Val explains at the tomb that only a pure person could free her, and that you are indeed an anomaly, being in the spirit world yet being pure, physically impossible in fact, but yes, another loophole in the order of the worlds. (You'll discover why later in the game.) Since she is dead and in the spirit world, there isn't much she can do except channel her energy to you to enable you to live, and talk, warn and help you.
The only way to beat Death is by collecting the souls of the disciples of Absol, who disappeared following Absol's disappearance, a wish by Death to make him a mortal human. With 10 of their souls replacing the souls of pure people, every wish made by Death will be undone, but you must do this within 5 days, for that is the end of the ten year gap of the urn's use.
There are twists and interesting characters to meet in the game, and I hope you are intrigued and mesmerized by this game world! ;-) Thanks for reading.

The Guide to the game. (For those who are stuck or can't beat it) :

Area1: Tutorial and the caged Angel. (Teaches you the basics.)

#From the Angel go south, find a red crystal, this is a switch. Hit it and move down.
#Keep going down until you can go left, move into the next area to the left.
#Keep going up, kill all the enemies and the "miniboss". The enemy nearest the miniboss drops a moveable key, push this into the circle next to the ramp near the top of the area.
#When the miniboss is dead a chest appears in the top left of the area, get the key inside and give it to the angel.
#Now you can phase, and so get over the blocking "spirit wards" to the right, going into the next area (Area2), cast Phase and go over them into the next area.

Area2: The Hermit and his wife. (Tests your observation and intiative.)

#Go right, remember to switch back to spirit to go over the living wards.
#Go up and then right and then down, past a line of trees and another enemy. Keep moving down, this should prompt a conversation with Val explaining a new type of switch.
#Switch the yellow switch and move left into the new area, you can press the red switch to the right (ranged hit only) if you wish.
#There is a blue stone, go to it and regenerate your soul, if you're living then go back to spirit and speak to the NPC to the left of the blue stone. She'll explain that you must give the letter to her husband, it is in the garden to the right of the house.
#Go behind the house (behind the roof) into the area to the right of the house then pick up the letter, while in that area, press all the Teal switches down, you must be living to do this.
#To hit the teal switches you may have to hit the red switches, you will have to at least twice in this area to get all the switches down.
#After collecting the letter and pressing down both switches in the garden, regenerate your soul again by going to the blue stone. Then, while living, talk to the husband in front of the house entrance.
#Now the spirit should be gone, press down the remaining two teal switches, this will make the gate into the third area go down.

Area3: Torches and Fires (Tests your initiative and intelligence.)

#In this new area, there should be another blue stone, regenerate your soul here.
#This entire area is about making the optimal route for setting fire to all 4 piles of wood before they go out.
#First you need to use spell 2 to hit the switch in the middle of the pond, this will switch all the wards' colours.
#Go to the bottom right of the area, go living, and switch the yellow switch.
#Then go continue left and destroy a suitable amount of roots.
#Now go up to the statue in the top right of the area, go living and take one of the torches.
#Go left to the topmost pile of wood, above the pond, and set it on fire. Move as fast as possible right to the pile of wood closest to the statue, then down as fastas possible (and a little left) to the pile of wood that is inside a ring of yellow blocks, then move left over the destroyed roots and continue towards the left most pile of wood. If you were fast enough then the gate should open, otherwise try again.
#Before going up past the gate into the new area, go left down the ramp into the new area and then go living if you're not, and press the yellow switch down, then return to Area3.
#Go up past the gate that should be open then go left into Area4.

Area4: Orbit the planetary monstrosity! (Tests your ability to actually actively battle as well as intelligence and intiative.)

#If you haven't yet, go back into Area three and switch the yellow switch that is blocked to the bottom of Area4, this allows you to progress to the boss.
#Continue through the area until you come to a tiny gap between the cliff and a line of trees, Save!
#Continue left, watch what happens until the boss battle begins. (Three conversations will appear, one to prompt you to save, another to guide you automatically to the boss, the third a conversation with the boss itself.)
#Now time to identify how to beat the big guy. There are two crystals orbiting the boss, a pink and a purple one, destroying the purple one prompts him to pull you towards him, move away as fast a possible, and avoid the orbiting spikes!
#Destroying the pink one prompts him to push you into the edge, try to keep a stable distance from the boss and avoid the spikes and orbiting spikes too.
#When both crystals are destroyed he will become exposed, hit him as much as possible, you can get it within two times, normally three times, and if you're very slow then 4 times.
#Be careful, things orbit faster when he's on lower health.
#After killing him, revive as much as possible, then go through the opening to the left, down past the line of trees and into Area5.

Area5: The Celestial tomb (End of demo)

#No obstacles here, just move down to the tomb following the arrows, you can go sight seeing if you want.
#Watch the conversation and end movie, hope you enjoyed the demo!

Did anyone else happen to get it? I got it on Saturday, and beat it today(Monday) with about only an hour of play on Sunday.

Anyway, the game plays nearly exactly the same as God of War, which would be a bad thing if GoW wasnt so damn awesome. You'll do alot of similiar tasks, similiar moves, and visit similiar places as in GoW. The game was sweet, but felt like a slightly lacking GoW in a different skin.

I would venture to say that Dante is as much of a badass as Kratos, maybe more. While Kratos is a pissed off bald guy running around on a revenge quest, Dante is a dood that wants his bitch back from Lucifer, because she doesnt deserve the shit Dante got her in.

The story was cool and choosing the fate of the damned was very intresting.

The gameplay was nearly Identical to GoW as I previously mentioned. Its actually pretty funny how un creative they were with a lot of the mechanics in the game. Still, the smooth and seamless combo's Dante can pull off were very satisfying. The area that Dante's Inferno is different from GoW is the context sensitive moves. Dante not only kills the enemy in a brutal fashion, but either punishes or absolves(your choice) the enemy giving you holy or unholy xp for use of upgrading your cross or sythe attacks. That being said, the context sensitive moves were seriously lacking in participation of the player sometimes.

The ending set the game up for a sequel, fyi.

I guess there is this crazy co op online shit coming out for it, where you fight in levels made by other people and create your own. Its called Trials of Saint Lucia.

Great game, but with GoW III coming out next month, its not that worth buying unless you really cant wait for GoW.

Hello everyone, this is my first every post on this truly wonderful
game creation forum.

Well the idea I present before you is a game that I am currently making with Game Maker, but when my friend tabletop showed me this website while slacking off in class, I knew from the start that this was the perfect place for me to share my game idea. From reading around these forums it seems that stencyl will be much easier for me to use and will certainly improve important
core aspects of my game. (perhaps impressing Jon with flattery will get me a beta spot :) )

Lets get started - "Colorblind Hate" is, well the name of the game, but before I get into the details of the game let me give you some background information

-Being colorblind is more then not being able to see colors, but rather a condition, a condition of pure evil, there is no good to be found in a colorblind, they are mindless, heartless, and have no desire other then to cause pain. They do not understand color, or the concept of what "good" is. There eyes do not see the world but, they do see it's shadow. Rainbows are poison to all colorblinds, and they lack the ability to tell night apart from day. Evil and more evil they seek, colorblinds have no soul, but yet they have an absolute yearning for absolute power. And for some strange reason people of Jewish heritage are attracted to them.

- Phil and Carly are two people who love each other very much, but like most stories that is the route of the problem, but for now that is all you need to know.

-Phil is the greatest colorblind hunter who ever lived, and for that reason, Anthony, the main bad guy of the game went after Phil locked him up.

-Carly is trying to rescue Phil from the cold clasps of Anthony's hands

-Most of the game will take place in Africa, and well you guessed it, there is an ancient artifact with great power hidden deep inside the African Jungle, that will be able to stop the colorblinds and put them in there place. (They would make good slaves wouldn't you agree?)

-Your going to be playing as Carly, and once you save Phil, you will be playing as him.

Game play/ Graphics

This game is no ordinary platformer, but, throughout the game you have the ability to fly, but there is a catch, since Carly dose not like walking in Africa, you must hold her, and because of her weight you can not fly while holding her. This means that for many levels you will have to figure out how to move Carly and yourself to the desired location so that you can continue with the game. There will be many in-game objects which can accomplish this task such as moving platforms and things that will bounce Carly up. But also note that Carly is affected by gravity and will fall off the map if you do not catch her. There will be many different enemies, from Africans to Colorblinds, you will be able to fight them all. Phil is able to shoot projectiles from himself which will kill most enemies in one shot. There will also be the occasional boss fight.

Colorblind Hate was made around the idea that "straight lines are bad", when making this game I decide to make the graphics as creative and colorful as possible. Instead of going down the road of detailed sprites, I made them have a more "cartoonish" appearance. Some may like them some may not, but most of the sprites are made to be flat out ridiculous.

As you can tell they were all drawn in paint. Please note that the sprites seen below are sizes for cutseens, the actual in game sprites are much smaller.

Hi,

I'm really looking forward to being able to try out Stencyl, whenever that may be! It'll be great to see the result of your hard work after all these months.

- Is there a hard coded limit on the number of sprites, objects, levels, etc? This is probably a bit of a rhetorical question, as I'm sure the limit would be high enough to not be a problem. However, it was a problem with the first The Games Factory.

- Is the engine speedy enough for real time scaling and rotation of sprites?

- Are there hard-coded 'behaviours' for objects/sprites? Such as car, walking, platform...

- Does it support streaming of audio files? What formats does it support?

- I know you've spoken about a website for uploading and sharing games. Can they be played directly from the website? If they can, is a download version available also? I hope so, as I prefer to play games locally.

Okay, sorry, that was more than a couple. Thank you!

As Fox mentioned recently, we are spending some time putting together a complete refresh of the site, with detailed information about our platform and product, playable games (and videos) created by our beta testers and stories about how they went about creating those games.

This is a stepping stone towards our impending launch this year. At this point, we're at the point where launch is far more contingent upon the readiness of user-generated content and documentation - the toolset has been feature complete for a while, and we're inviting new testers on a near-daily basis.

As you may have noticed, there's been a considerable dropoff in public forum activity in the past few months. A good part of that is because we've invited a substantial number of people off the forums and mailing list, and they now frequent our beta tester area, which is very active, so rest assured that we're doing quite well!

That said, we realize that those who don't have access yet have been left out in the cold, and we'd like to take time to figure out how we can make these forums work better for you.

Our original intent was to use the forums to get like-minded prospective users to discuss potential games ideas with each other, ask questions and speculate about our platform. This no longer seems to be an interest of many of you, so what can we do to make things better?
REBIRTH
By: P H

Cloning almost never came up in conversations anymore. It either wasn’t a hot topic like Ford’s new Hover-truck, or nobody liked to reflect on failures. Back in the 2020’s when it had still been a fairly new and untested technology, the feds would line up at the door of every college in America to give huge grants for research on cloning. After the first couple successful cloning of humans however, the well ran dry. This was in part due to the fact that we were about to go into WW3 with Australia and China; the Government needed all the money it could get. But, the bigger part of the problem was that humans were deemed as impossible to clone perfectly. Whilst animals usually came out with only a couple mutations, any human clone would just be a vegetable, floating, and draining life support inside a fluid filled tank. The top scientists from around the world (but not Australia and China) put their brains to work to overcome this insuperable task, to no avail. No matter what variables were eliminated, the end result was always the same; a coma. And so, cloning was relegated to small talk every now and then, or the occasional “Where did it go?” reality T.V. show, but Mr. Evermoor was making a profit from it.
As he was wont to do after reviewing the past 30 years in his mind, Dean Evermoor got up out of his $10,000 Blue Suede chair, shuffled over to his secretary, fired her, hired a new one and said:
“I’m going home early”
With that exchange of pleasantries, Mr. Evermoor followed his daily routine and walked down to the holding tanks where the clones were held.
"This room is by far the creepiest in the building" he thought. There was at least a mile of clone tanks all lined up on either side of the hallway. Every tank had a greenish glow about the glass and the floor because of the fluids inside. Each clone was hooked up to a countless series of tubes going into, out of, through, and around the eyes, ears, nose, mouth and butt. The clones were lifeless shells of famous people. All had their heads pointing to the light at the top of their tank, to keep the throat straight so that the food that was dripped down wouldn’t fall into the lungs. As Mr. Evermoor passed by his own clone’s tank he saw that the head had drooped and the chin was now resting on the chest. He made a self note to fire the clone keeper. Mr. Evermoor made his way to the lobby and saw, with satisfaction, a movie actor being hustled into the emergency room that was installed on the premises.
“That’ll be one million dollars Mr. Jackson” he thought.
Finally out of the lobby, he exited the building. As he was walking the crosswalk to get to his brand new Lamborghini Andare. He had purchased it the week before and it was in fine condition. It had a V24 engine with Quadruple intake valves, custom windshield wipers and five exhaust pipes. The seats were made of the finest leather around. Mr. Evermoor preferred the red and black version, but whenever a fancy hit him, he could press a button and change the color manually. He dropped his keys right in the middle of the walk. As he bent down to pick them up, a truck rounded the corner and struck him from behind. He was viciously sucked beneath the wheels and crushed before he knew what happened. Newspapers the day later would give little mention of his death.
Mr. Evermoor (or Mr. Reaper) as his employees called him, had been founder of Spare Parts®. Spare Parts® was an international organization that kept peoples clones alive on life support and then harvested the organs from the clone if the original person’s organs failed. Most people thought that because the clones weren’t able to function like a normal human being, they were useless. But Mr. Evermoor had never been that naïve. While clones certainly weren’t walking around talking and living, they certainly still had their organs functioning in good condition, which meant they could be used.
Mr. Evermoor woke up. He felt weightless, same as before. He could feel tubes running every which way on his body, same as before. But now, he was looking OUT of the tank. That had never happened before. Instantly, he panicked. Thrashing around inside of his tank, Mr. Evermore was a whirl of tan and green. He ripped all of his tubes out and swam to the top of the tank before realizing his throat was filled with the green, glowing slime. He heaved himself up and over the edge of the tank and fell, heavily, onto the cold tile of the clone holding floor. Almost immediately, his assistant came into the room.
“Are you all right sir?”
“Do I look all right too you?”
“No sir, sorry sir. Here are the clothes you always insist on sir.”
The assistant handed him a very comfortable looking robe with slippers, then he brought over a chair for his employer to rest on after his ordeal.
As he was sitting in his chair Mr. Evermoor chuckled to himself. Those bratty scientists never knew that their process had actually worked. The only problem was when both clone and original were alive. The soul cannot occupy two living bodies at once, so only the original can function. If you take away the body for the soul to inhabit without a clone it would disintegrate. With a clone it would be magnetically drawn to the clone and inhabit itself there. Mr. Evermoor then got up out of his chair and called the street cleaning service to clean up his mangled body by the front of the building.
REBIRTH
They even know wave failed, as many people who didn't want it to. This seems like an infinitely better alternative, right in the Gmail in-box. Perfect.
What does everyone else think of it?
